The Village of Canal Flats has had many inquiries regarding 2020 property taxes over the last few weeks.

Tax notices will be mailed to property owners by the end of May as usual, and the deadline for taxes will be July 2, 2020.

However, in an effort to assist property owners and businesses affected during the Covid-19 pandemic, staff and Council have been developing a bylaw to defer late penalties on any outstanding taxes.
This means that instead of the penalty being applied on July 3rd, the penalty will be applied at a later time, still to be determined, most likely on October 1st. The Alternative Municipal Tax Collection Scheme Bylaw will be adopted at a future meeting of Council.

Qualifying residents of Canal Flats who wish to defer their property taxes through the Provincial Property Tax Deferment Program will be required to submit their applications directly to the Property Tax Branch and Homeowners Grant applications to the Village office prior to July 2, 2020.
